Privacy Policy for Massar Driver

This Privacy Policy explains how Massar Driver ("we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, and protects your personal and location data when you use our driver application.

Massar is a community-driven service. It is not affiliated with any government entity, public agency, or official transport service.

1. Information We Collect

Account and operational data

• Your username and password (stored only as a secure hash, never in plain text)
• Your name and phone number
• Your city and the line you drive
• Your bus plate number, if you choose to enter it
• Your daily schedule (start and end times for automatic sharing)
• Your account status (pending, verified or blocked), set by Massar administrators
• Your invitation code, and which driver invited you if you signed up with their code

Location data

• While you share your location, the app sends your GPS position, speed and the time of each update every few seconds.
• Sharing happens when you start it, or automatically during the schedule you configured. A notification is always shown while sharing is on, and you can stop it at any time.
• Location is sent only while sharing is on, including when the app is in the background during sharing.

2. How We Use Your Information

• Live bus positions for passengers: passengers see a bus on your line, its position and its estimated arrival times. They do not see your name, phone number or plate.
• Verification: Massar administrators verify drivers before their positions are shown to passengers. Administrators can see your name, phone number, plate, line and live position, and can hide a vehicle from passengers or block an account.
• Automatic sharing based on your schedule.
• Travel-time statistics: from the positions of verified drivers, the service computes how long buses take between two consecutive stops (see section 4). These statistics improve the arrival times and trip plans shown to passengers.
• Service statistics: the service also records, anonymously, when buses run each direction of a line (a direction, the first stop reached and the time, never who drove), to tell passengers the usual first and last bus and frequency.
• Sharing sessions: for each time you share, the service keeps when it started and ended, your line, the distance driven and the largest number of passengers who followed your bus. You see your own statistics in the app; Massar administrators see them to follow the service (for example which lines had buses today).
• Your audience: while you share, the app shows how many passengers follow your bus and have your line open. These are counts only; you never see who they are.
• Invitations: your code lets other drivers sign up as invited by you. You see how many drivers joined with your code; administrators see who invited whom.

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share:

• Live bus positions with the Massar passenger app, without your name, phone number or plate
• Data as required by law (e.g., a court order)

4. Data Retention

• Live positions are kept in memory only while you share, and removed when you stop sharing or after 5 minutes without updates. We do not store a history of your positions.
• Travel times between stops (for example "stop A to stop B took 95 seconds") and when buses ran each direction are kept for 90 days, then deleted automatically. They are anonymous: they never record who drove.
• Sharing sessions (start, end, line, distance, most passengers following) are kept for 90 days, then deleted automatically. They do not contain your positions.
• Account information is kept until you ask us to delete your account.
• Login sessions expire after 30 days without using the app.

5. Your Rights

As a driver, you have the right to:

• Access or correct your personal data
• Request deletion of your account and data
• Stop sharing at any time, or withdraw consent by uninstalling the app
• Contact us with privacy concerns

6. Security

• All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/WSS)
• Your connection is authenticated with signed tokens; passwords are stored only as secure hashes
• Background location runs as an Android foreground service with a visible notification
